The IRFU successfully hosted the 2006 Indonesian Rugby Luncheon presented by Thiess Indonesia and Standard Chartered Bank for over 450 guests on Saturday June 17th at the Hotel Shangri-La. The event was hosted by Justin ‘Sambo’ Sampson from ESPN-STAR Sports and Special Guests included former Test players Tom Lawton (Wallaby), Terry Wright (All Black) and Phil Greening (England).

The IRFU hosted the Macau Rugby Union in a Barbarian Match between an Indonesian selection and Macau at the ISCI Rugby Club on Friday June 16th. This was the first international match (non-Test level) played on Indonesian soil under the IRFU. The match was a tough a forward battle with some great runs by the backs and was played in good spirits with the visitors running out eventual winners 22-10.

The 2006 Qantas Youth Rugby Clinic hosted by the ISCI Rugby Club on Friday June 16th. This clinic was hosted by Justin ‘Sambo’ Sampson from ESPN-STAR Sports and former Test players Tom Lawton (Wallaby), Terry Wright (All Blacks) and Phil Greening (England).

There were over 80 Youths in attendance for this clinic, most of whom were Indonesian Nationals which represents the growth of rugby amongst the local population. Mr Steve Farquer, Qantas’ Indonesia Manager commented that Qantas was very supportive of rugby development in Indonesia and hoped that the upsurge in Indonesian participation continued.
