INDONESIAN RUGBY APPOINTS NEW PRESIDENT

By Stephen Barber, IRFU Chairman

The Indonesian Rugby Football Union (IRFU) appointed Air Vice Marshall (Ret.) Pieter Wattimena as its new President at a Special Meeting held on Thursday January 22, 2009. Pieter’s election was welcomed by the IRFU Board as this position has been vacant since former President and an IRFU Founder, Andrew Nugroho resigned due to family and work reasons in mid-2008. Although relatively new to the sport of rugby union, Pieter promises to assist the IRFU in achieving much in 2009 and beyond, including assisting the sport in receiving much needed recognition from the Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs.
